Workers' Compensation - Devil in the Details

PAY ATTENTION TO THE DETAILS

Many companies lose control of costs when they merely send an accident report to their insurance company after an employee is injured. They think “claim” management replaces “employee” involvement. Not paying attention to seemingly insignificant details can result in unnecessary costs to both the employee and the company.

  • Stay in touch with your injured employee from the time of injury until they return to work
  • Explain how the law works regarding medical expenses and lost wages
  • Encourage them to bring questions and concerns to you, not just the insurance company
  • Select an occupational medicine provider to treat injured employees
  • Have that provider visit your location to get a “hands on” understanding of jobs
  • Encourage supervisors to work with restricted employees
  • Develop a total cost impact of lost time and show it to supervisors
  • Take an active role with your insurance company – they work for you

Workers’ Compensation is an administrative law and does not require attorneys to process claims. Taking an active interest in helping your injured employee understand the details can keep the “devil” away.
